The above video applies to installation of Escamita, 1 & 2" Hex,

1 x 3s (Running Bond, Herringbone, Basketweave and 3-Square)

General Note:

Glazed ceramics are not recommended for floor use. However, clients use them in low-use bath applications. Buyer-Beware. If considered for floor, material must be installed on unmodified mortar base. In order to produce the authentic look with minimal grout joint, we produce our mosaics with a clean (sharp) edge.  The installer must blend sheets to maintain uniformity and insure that each mosaic piece is flat and no edge is up. Raised edges may wear.  As we can not control installation, California Art Tile does not recommend these mosaics on the foor."

Our Mosaics are handcrafted in a hand-carved mold. As an aid to installation, each piece of your mosaic is placed by hand on an adhesive sheet. Pieces may have to be adjusted, as gaps may occur. Here are some tips:

Prior to installation of Mosaic Tiles (Escamita, 1 x 3 Running Bond, 1-inch Hex, 2-inch Hex,

1 x 3 Herringbone, 1 x 3 Basketweave, 1 x 3 3-Square):

Mosaic sheets are not pavers and must be blended prior/ during installation. In order to blend the Mosaic sheets, the installer must take time to adjust the sheets prior to installation.  During the install, some pieces may have to be fine-tuned, so the sheets blend well into each other. Start by placing the sheets next to each other, examine the intersection of each sheet into the adjacent sheet on all sides.   We recommend cutting the plastic with a sharp knife, if needed, to adjust and push pieces together so your grout joints have a uniform look. Examine the remainder of the tiles taking the time to see if any other tiles may have shifted and need readjusting.

Prior to installation of Circles Mosaic Tiles:

Circle Mosaic sheets are not pavers and must be blended prior/ during installation. In order to blend the Circle Mosaic sheets, the installer must take time to adjust the sheets prior to installation.  Start by placing the sheets next to each other, then, remove pieces along the joint that are the same size and replace with smaller or larger sized circles, as needed.  During install, some pieces may have to be adjusted…the joint must have a random look in order for the sheets to flow together.

Before grouting our mosaics:

We recommend  a mixture of white vinegar/ water to clean the mosaics of glue upon removal of the plastic sheet.

Buyer beware: Ceramic tile is not intended for floor use. If end-user chooses to use our tile on the floor, it should be used in a low-use area, only.  Color, shade, size and texture variation are inherent in handcrafted tile. Installation constitutes acceptance of product.
